The purpose of this unit is to orient students to the nature of the relationship between the United States and the world--at the end of the twentieth century. We will explore the meaning of the Biblical theme of shalom as a way of seeing na- tions' aspirations, politically, economically, and socially. A central question will be this: what vision of a good society do we in the United States offer different parts of the world? Semi- nars have at times centered around US/China rela- tions, US/West African relations, and US relations with terrorist states.
