Description

Prerequisites: COSC 1301 BIOL 1401 Bios is Greek for 'life'; teushos means 'tools'; while logos is Greek for 'word' 'study of,' or 'essence.' So, Botechnology may be defined as the study of tools from living things. Better still it may be defined as the use of techniques based on living systems (plants, animals, or microbes) to make products or improve other species. This course provides a brief survey of Biotechnology, with a primary focus on the computer tools - generally characterized as Bioinformatics, the application of information science to biology. Although there is a course textbook, the course will make extensive use of Internet links to provide additional information, or to present information from a different perspective. No lab
